Welcome to the 9th edition of Drag Race All Star, where the stakes are as low as the entertainment value is high! Unlike the intense drama of RuPaul’s Drag Race, this show is all about fun and fabulousness without the pressure of eliminations.
After the success of All Stars 7, which featured only winners and no eliminations, and the not-so-successful All Stars 8, Drag Race is back with more experimentation.
This season, Drag Race mixes things up again with a non-elimination format, featuring queens who didn't win their original seasons, and some who didn’t even make it to the finale.
The season kicks off with “Drag Queens Save the World,” featuring a diverse group of queens. Highlights include Gottmik, who excels despite not being a great dancer, and Roxxxy Andrews, who’s good at everything. Vanjie brings her unique blend of glamour and sass, while Angeria impresses with her hardworking attitude. Nina West’s drag might not excite everyone, but she brings a needed wholesome element. Plastique Tiara stuns with her beauty, and Jorgeous is a petite ball of energy. Shannel, a seasoned queen, adds a touch of old school to the mix.
The first challenge is a group number, with each queen writing and recording a verse. Jorgeous stands out with her energy, but Angeria and Jorgeous ultimately win the challenge. The runway challenge is a perfume-themed look and comedy combo, with varied results. The judges, maintaining the fun vibe of the show, offer light critiques.
In the second episode, “The Paint Ball,” the queens must create three looks: Monochromatica, Art Imitates Drag, and a sewn look using paint. While Angeria struggles, Shannel brings her signature over-the-top style, and Roxxxy delivers solid, if not standout, looks. Gottmik excels with a futuristic purple outfit and a stunning Scream-inspired dress, earning her a win alongside Plastique Tiara, who amazes with her meticulously painted gown.
Aaaaand... the dazzling Bruno graces the screen in nothing but a French beret and a striking Garçon Espanola brief in vibrant yellow and pink. You're welcome!
Overall, the non-elimination format adds a playful dynamic, with the queens focusing on their performances without the fear of being sent home. As the season progresses, the focus will be on creativity, camaraderie, and charity, making it a fun watch for fans of the franchise.
Stay tuned for more fabulousness and drama-free fun on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 9!
